Turmeric or haldi, also known as Curcuma Longa, Turmeric, the main spice used in curry, is the most powerful herb on the planet.  Turmeric is having medicinal properties which can treat everyday problems such as indigestion, flatulence and more serious problems such as arthritis or liver disorders. 




Turmeric is loaded with dietary fiber and niacin. It also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Potassium, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium and Zinc.Turmeric is a perennial plant of the ginger family, has extensive anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties and it is also used in the kitchen to cure various ailments.


Some of  health benefits of turmeric are as follows:

A . Relieves Cough And Cold

  • Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal in nature. It also boosts the immune system due to the compound lipo-polysaccharide present in it. Regular use of turmeric will keep common cold, cough and fever away. It is 5 to 8 times stronger than vitamin E and C, this antioxidant helps boost immunity.
  • Tea made of 1 teaspoon of powdered turmeric simmered in 2 cups of water for 5 mins will take care of the niggling dry cough.
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric mixed in a glass of warm milk will take care of a running nose.
  • For a bad sinus attack, mix half tsp. of turmeric powder along with 1 lemon and honey in warm water to create a smoothie. A marked improvement is noticed within 3 days if one has it at least once a day.

B . Lowers Cholesterol Levels

  • Turmeric reduces LDL in the blood stream, it dissolves clots, & reduces arterial plaque. The anti-oxidants in turmeric also help slow down ageing and combat the ill effects of free radicals.
  • Add a pinch of pepper, when using turmeric in any preparation, piperine present in pepper increases the amount of Curcumin that is assimilated by the body.

The active ingredient Curcumin present in Turmeric, extends its anti-inflammatory properties at a cellular level and helps the body fight pain.   • A sure shot cure for cuts, wounds and skin infections is to boil a cup of flaxseed oil with a thinly sliced onion. Remove the onion when it turns dark brown and in its place add 2 tbsp. of turmeric powder.
  • When the oil is comfortably cool, apply it on the affected part with a cotton swab 3 times a day till the wound heals.
  • Rest of the oil can be stored in an airtight container. A cotton fabric dipped in the oil and secured in place overnight can also heal fractures and sprains.

  • Turmeric reduces aches and pains of arthritis and stiffness of joints. It also soothes irritated tissues & muscles, providing immense relief to those prone to seasonal aches and pains. In fact studies have shown that turmeric considerably inhibits inflammatory enzymes and helps more than over the counter pain killers.
  • Start the day with a mix of 2 pinches of turmeric powder with a glass of water.
  • You could also try it with bit of honey mixed in the powder.

E . Reduces Blemishes And Pigmentation
